Digitalized Cadet Information Management System

Description

Generally, Automation plays an important role in the global economy and in daily experience. Engineers strive to combine automated devices with mathematical and organizational tools to create complex systems for a rapidly expanding range of applications. The Patient Information Management System (PIMS) is an automated system that is used to manage patient information and its administration. It is meant to provide the Administration and Staff, with information in real-time to make their work more interesting and less stressing. Automated hospital information systems can help improve quality of care because of their far-reaching capabilities. The lives of patients can be improved if computer systems  are used to obtain information, make difficult decisions, and contact experts and support groups.

Problem Statement

The absence of a well established information system to serve patient (who are mostly cadets) and staff has led to inconveniences. This is tantamount to the loss of patient and staff records. This is because of the weakness of the existing system which includes over reliance on paper based work. Manual systems put pressure on people to be correct in all details of their work at all times. With manual systems the level of service is dependent on individuals and this puts a requirement on management to run training continuously for staff to keep them motivated and to ensure they are following the correct procedures.  It can be all to easy to accidentally switch details and end up with inconsistency in data entry or in hand written orders.  This has the effect of not only causing problems with patient but also making information unable be used for reporting or finding trends with data discovery. It takes more effort and physical space to keep track of paper documents, to find information and to keep details secure. With manual or partially automated systems information often has to be written down and copied or entered more than once.

Aim and Objectives of the Study

The aim is to develop an operational Patient Information Management System for Medical Reception Station, Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.

The specific objectives are:

i. To design an automated Patient Information Management system.

ii. To design a system that will reduce the time spent in the MRS for medical attention

iii.  To eradicate the manual method of keeping medical records.
